Energy chains for work portals in large ship production
At the compact shipyard in Papenburg, where mainly luxury liners and high-end cruise ships are built, a gigantic crane system is used over a length of almost 200 metres. Energy supply systems from igus are used to supply a crane system with a total of eight crane bridges with energy and media. They provide the necessary flexibility and freedom of movement when manufacturing high-precision steel components.

Fuel-saving wingsails reliably moved with corrosion-free plain and ball bearings
bound4blue supplies automatic wind-assisted propulsion systems (wingsails) for ships, which can save up to 40 % of fuel consumption and reduce pollutant emissions. The company relies on xiros ball bearings and iglidur® bearings made of high-performance plastic to ensure that the movements in the wing sails function reliably in the adverse conditions at sea. They are lighter than conventional metal bearings and resistant to corrosion.

Retractable ship propulsion systems: compact guidance for heavy cables
On a seismic survey vessel and a well intervention vessel in the oil industry, the decision in favour of a retractable thruster led to a problem in the design. Many cables for powering the heavy propulsion systems had to be guided close to the engine and as compactly as possible. To safely manage the enormous number of cables (additional loads), E4.1 series energy chains were offered as multiband chains.
