Fly One® is a multifunctional media system developed by Hohenloher in the form of a designer ceiling light. It can be unfolded at the touch of a button to provide media such as electricity, data, gas, or compressed air. The drive mechanism uses igus plastic components that ensure quiet, maintenance-free operation. Since conventional construction elements were not satisfactory, the designers were also looking for individual components that could be easily 3D printed at igus.
The innovative PortaPivot revolving doors work completely without door frames and can be swung open 360 degrees in both directions. In addition to adaptable gas pressure springs, two iglidur plain bearings inside the hinges ensure that only a small amount of force is required despite the doors' high dead weight. In tests previously performed by PortaPivot itself, the bearings exceeded expectations and easily withstood 248,000 cycles of 180° pivoting. The desire to eliminate service times was also fulfilled because, thanks to their dry operation, iglidur bearings are completely maintenance-free over their entire service life.
The designers at Nowy Styl GmbH were looking for a bearing that would not make any noise during office chair adjustment and use. Lubricants were also to be eliminated so as to avoid cleaning and maintenance costs. The metallic bearings, including needle roller bearings, previously used in this chair were also custom-made and very expensive to produce. A wide variety of iglidur plain bearings made of the G and J materials are available. They are cost-effective, robust, quiet, and maintenance-free.
V-Zug AG in Switzerland produces high-quality household appliances that are especially durable and function reliably. In order to achieve the perfect haptics for a rotary knob, the developers were looking for an optimal bearing material. Brass bearings were out of the question because of their electrical conductivity. Bearings made of ceramic could also not be used due to the high costs. The solution was found at igus: iglidur bushings made of the special RN24 material are affordable and completely maintenance-free thanks to their dry operation. The good performance and coefficient of friction meant that the service life requirements were exceeded three times over in customer tests.
