About the application:

In Volkswagen's Emden plant, Passat B8 PA production uses
a robolink® articulated arm robot.Gluing acoustic measures in the rear battery console area involves the bonding robot applying two adhesives seams, eliminating painstaking manual work by line personnel
and enhancing bonding process quality.

The problem

The original gluing process involved line personnel manually removing rear battery consoles from containers and applying two acoustic adhesive seams.
The console would then be installed on the side of the boot compartment. This process resulted in each employee's activity content being 120% of that shown in the capacity diagram in automobile mass production. Employees were therefore
unable to completely maintain their work cycle. The greater workload combined with time pressure led to increased susceptibility to error.

The solution:

Using the robolink W to automate the gluing procedure not only reduces employee workload, but also ensures precise, consistent battery console gluing with constant gluing quality. The entire manufacturing process is automated, from component
removal to positioning on a gluing table to applying the two acoustic adhesive seams.
