Multi-touch table with pen combination is for creative professionals
This innovative project is the final project of Chamila Perera, a graduate in industrial design at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. The multi-touch table with pen combination is for creative professionals such as designers, architects and graphic artists who work visually and have to deal with sketching, brainstorming, presenting and designing on a daily basis. In order to optimise the processes in a creative office, the table is intended to serve as a work surface that combines the conventional table and the virtual desktop.
The idea was to create an interactive work table for designers who want to work without paper, without many peripheral devices and without the annoying tangle of cables. The idea is to show what can be realised in the near future. A concept for an "interactive table" that not only pushes images back and forth, but also utilises its full functionality within the realm of possibilities. The table should be a thinking device that is fun to use and works in the creative office environment, combining many of the superfluous peripherals into one device. The aim is to simplify the operating procedure and, last but not least, to support paperless working, resulting in a 1:1 model made of wood and steel. The prototype was named Y-Desk.

Y-Desk contains a vertical and a horizontal surface. Both surfaces are multi-touch sensitive, which serves as an interface between the digital and analogue work surface. The user can mute them if desired and use the desk as a normal piece of furniture. The table offers the user group daily functions such as scanning, drawing and, last but not least, communication tools such as audio/video conferencing options combined in one device. At the same time, the table offers options for individualisation and private use. Several users can work actively on one device, together or independently. First and foremost, everyday processes are simplified by short walking distances, but the table also inspires the user in the creative process.
