Vertical standing arrangement

In an upright arrangement, the energy chain moves vertically. The arc of the U is above the two fixed ends or suspension points. The chain therefore takes on an inverted U-shape between the two fixed points. The physics of the setup dictate that it can support short travels only.

Tips for a long-lasting energy supply in standing applications

For machine tools, linear robots and handling units, standing energy chains are one of the standard solutions. To reliably supply units that move vertically, such as lead screws, with energy, signals and, if necessary, media (compressed air, hydraulic oil, coolant), cables are protected and guided in energy chains. The standing energy chain application is probably the second frequent arrangement after the vertical one. This makes it all the more important to offer users these nine tips to support project planning.

Mounting brackets
The mounting brackets must be attached in such a way that the energy chain is rigid and cannot bow outwards. Our product range offers locking or one-sided locking mounting brackets for almost all types. Locking KMA mounting brackets are highly recommended because they can be attached directly to the front of the machine.

Cables and hoses
Cables and hoses must be laid in the energy chain in such a way that they can move freely in the longitudinal direction at all times and bear their own weight. For precise cable guidance, we strongly recommend an interior separation. Cables must be secured at both ends with a strain relief.

Support
In general, the energy supply system must be provided with external support at the fixed and moving ends. For greater energy chain heights, it is generally advisable to support at least the first three chain links on the outer radius. For maximum heights and filling weights, it is often necessary to support the entire distance.
